Akai PS-200M Gallery

The PS-200M has only 4 output transistors per channel. That isn't many output transistors for a 230 Watts per channel amplifier. Most 200+ WPC amps have 6 or even 8 output transistors per channel. Don't get me wrong; 4 is sufficient for average listening conditions. Just don't go DJ'ing with this amplifier.

The main amplifier circuit board is mounted on the opposite side of the heatsink (shown in the image above). There are two of these circuit boards in the amplifier.

The PS-200M chassis with the heatsinks removed (new main filter capacitors installed).

It may have less output transistors than one might expect, but it does have separate power transformers for each channel.

Akai manufactured a full line of quality audio products until about the mid 1980's. They are probably best known for their tape players, both open reel and cassette.
